The Finkleman Preparation DEMO

Adrenergic Drugs 1

Instructions

In the following experiment you should:

1. Test the effects of adding different concentrations of NE to the organ bath and note the effects in each case. Take care to observe how rapidly the effects are produced, whether the effects of NE are to relax or contract the intestine and for how long the effects last.

2. Using a concentration of 54 ug/ml of NE (which produces a submaximal effect), observe the action of each of the drugs in the "Drug 2" table against that concentration of NE.

Note the effects of each drug and then answer the questions on the following pages. Use the "View Control" button to give you a visual representation of the effects of NE alone and in combination with another drug.

3. Repeat this process for the single selected concentrations of the other drugs in the "Drug 1" table - isoprenaline, tyramine and phenylephrine. Again take care to observe how rapidly the effects are produced, whether their effects are to relax or contract the intestine and for how long the effects last.

Observe the effects of the drugs available in the "Drug 2" table on the actions of isoprenaline, tyramine and phenylephrine and then answer the questions on the following pages.

Use the "View Control" button to give you a visual representation of the effects of the selected drug from the "Drug 1" table alone and in combination with those selected from the "Drug 2" table.
