David Dewhurst has a BSc and PhD in the life sciences, over 25 years experience as a university teacher and is Emeritus Professor of e-Learning at the University of Edinburgh, UK having retired in 2018. At Edinburgh he held a number of positions: Director of Educational Information Services in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine; Director of the College's Learning Technology Section; and Academic Lead of a university-wide distance education initiative (Masters degrees online). From 2005-2008 he was Assistant Principal with University-wide responsibility for strategic planning and policy development in e-learning and e-health. His research in technology-enhanced learning is internationally renowned and he has >250 peer-reviewed publications, >£2m in grant income, has supervised several PhD students and directed major educational projects in Africa and Eastern Europe. He has won several prizes including a prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2005 for 'The Virtual Hospital Online - transforming medical and veterinary education' and the Doerenkamp-Zbinden Foundation International Prize for Animal free Research in 2006.
